The Paleolithic was the dawn of humanity, an era of carved stone and primal gestures, the beginning of our trace. Back then, humans shaped what they found : bone, flint, wood, hides. They learned to read nature, to inhabit it, to fear it, to follow its rhythms. Today, a new era unfolds, one of novel materials, of chemistry, of transformed oil. We create what nature never imagined. Plastic is our new stone. Shiny, smooth, immortal. It does not decay, it endures. But this time, what we leave behind will not fade. We have become the alchemists of the Anthropocene. And this matter we’ve created…what will it say of us, once we are gone?

Le Paléolithique fut l’aube de l’humanité. Ère de pierres taillées et de gestes premiers, le commencement de notre trace. L’homme y façonnait ce qu’il trouvait : os, silex, bois, peaux. Il apprenait à lire la nature, à l’habiter, à la craindre, à la suivre. Aujourd’hui, une autre ère s’ouvre, celle des matières nouvelles, de la chimie, du pétrole transformé. Nous créons ce que la nature n’a jamais imaginé. Le plastique est notre nouvelle roche. Brillant, lisse, immortel. Il ne se décompose pas, il persiste. Mais cette fois, ce que nous laissons ne s'effacera pas. Nous sommes devenus alchimistes de l’anthropocène. Cette matière que nous avons créée… que dira-t-elle de nous, quand nous aurons disparu ?
